S tate Symphony Cappella of Russia
Out of the "hot-bed" of Russian choral music comes one of the greatest Russian choirs - the State Symphony Capella of Russia. This fabulous 50+ voice mixed choir was founded in 1991 as a result of a merger of the USSR State Chamber Choir, under the leadership of Valeri Polyansky, and the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture. It is one of the leading choral organizations in Russia today.
Specializing in a strictly disciplined performing regimen, the Capella is known for its flexibility of phrasing, rich and warm sound, nobility of expression, skillfully balanced sections, wonderful soloists and superb musicality. The deep Russian basses will definitely be heard!
Having performed in numerous Russian cities, the Capella has toured in Spain, Hungary, France, Holland, Germany, Sweden, Canada, England and Italy. Critics around the world have noted the Capella's flawless technique, crystal-clear and precise intonation and unfailing attention to poetic lyrics. In 2005 the Capella made a debut tour to the Far East visiting Hong Kong and Mainland China as part of holiday festivities.
The Capella's programs are drawn from the works of Rachmaninoff, Dvorak, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, famous opera selections and many beautiful Russian folk songs.
This world-renowned choir is now making its first US tour of 23 cities. The Rapid City Concert Association is extremely proud to initiate our 2007-2008 season by presenting this unique and wonderful musical experience!
