If you love the music of the Big Bands...here comes a great opportunity to enjoy the music of The Harry James Orchestra....playing all the old familiar tunes which were hits for the original Harry James Music Makers.
Led by trumpet virtuoso, Fred Radke, and featuring vocalist Gina Funes, the Harry James Orchestra will appear here to conclude the 2009-10 series of the Rapid City Concert Association.
Harry James heard a singer in Elmwood, NJ and was sufficiently impressed to offer him a job...Frank Sinatra recorded “All Or Nothing At All” with the Music Makers and it became a million seller. Sinatra later joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. During the successful years that followed, Harry James helped to launch the careers of several young singers including Connie Haines and Helen Forrest.
His steady stream of hit recordings included “I’ll Get By,” “I Don’t Want To Walk Without You,” “I Cried For You,” “I Had The Craziest Dream,” “Sleepy Lagoon,” “I’ve Heard That Song Before,” “You Made Me Love You,” “Two O’Clock Jump,” and of course his great theme song “Chiribiribin.”
Since Harry’s death in 1983, the band has continued the traditions of the fine playing that first made it famous, and is now under the direction of Harry’s lead trumpet virtuoso, Fred Radke. Under his direction The Harry James Orchestra plays the major venues of the US, including Las Vegas and Disneyland and tours extensively throughout the world.
